Rangiata Sky celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Māori with te reo commentary for Bledisloe Cup tests and new content rails featuring indigenous stories on Sky and Neon
Rangiata Sky is celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Māori by elevating the use of te reo and indigenous storytelling across its sport and entertainment programming.
On Monday 16 September, a new content feature rail, named Tūhononga Pasifika, will launch across Rangiata Sky (new Sky Box, Sky Pod and Sky Go) and Neon, giving our customers an easy way to discover and enjoy indigenous stories from the Pacific.
Tūhononga, which means ‘connection’, represents a space where stories and identities from across the Māori and Pasifika world can be celebrated, protected, and preserved. The rail was the brainchild of a group from Kuaka, Rangiata Sky’s Māori and Pasifika leadership development programme, who wanted to weave together Rangiata Sky’s array of indigenous content.
The group - Mariarangi Carkeek (Sky Originals Coordinator), Tisera Lelaulu (Customer Care Administrator), Rose Ngakiau (Customer Care Workforce Coordinator), Lillian Suttie (Customer Care Agent), Raniera Harrison (Cultural Implementation Lead), and Benjamin Brundle (Content Planner) – developed and launched this idea with the support of the broader business, to ensure that Rangiata Sky offers an inclusive experience that reflects our country and Rangiata Sky’s identity and heritage.
Rangiata Sky’s Te Wiki o te Reo Māori celebrations will extend over the next two weekends when the All Blacks face the Wallabies in their upcoming Bledisloe Cup tests.
Sky Sport will broadcast both matches live on September 21 and September 28 with English and te reo Māori commentary across Sky Sport 1 and 2.
Te reo Māori commentary will be provided by Te Aorere Pewhairangi (Ngāti Porou) and Tūmamao Harawira (Ngāpuhi, Te Whānau a Apanui) on Sky Sport 2, while Grant Nisbett, Tony Johnson, Jeff Wilson, Mils Muliaina, and Justin Marshall will share English commentary duties on Sky Sport 1.
Sky Open will also have free-to-air delayed coverage of both tests with English commentary.
The All Blacks and Wallabies face off in the first Bledisloe Cup test at Accor Stadium in Sydney on September 21 from 5:45pm NZT, before heading to Sky Stadium in Wellington for their second encounter on September 28 from 7:05pm NZT.
