A gripping new three-part series exploring the mysterious death of former Napier City Councillor Peter Beckett’s wife

Sky New Zealand Originals series In Cold Water: The Shelter Bay Mystery produced by Canada’s Cineflix’s C3 Media and AJP Productions for Prime Video will have its New Zealand free-to-air premiere on Sky Open, screening across three unmissable nights from 18-20 November at 8.30pm.

This gripping new mini-series, directed by Trish Neufeld (Lulu Guru: The Man Behind the Yoga Pants), recounts the case and investigation of the drowning of Canadian school teacher Laura Letts-Beckett while on a fishing vacation in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. The only witness to her death is her husband, ‘larger-than-life’ former Napier city councillor, Peter Beckett.

While Laura’s death was initially deemed an accident, a year later, Peter is arrested and charged with her murder. Amid conflicting opinions and swirling suspicions, more shocking allegations are made against a desperate Peter who is locked in the fight of his life. What unfolds after his arrest is almost unbelievable.

Told through the eyes of Peter Beckett, with exclusive interviews with Laura’s friends and family, as well as lawyers, forensic experts and police, In Cold Water: The Shelter Bay Mystery examines Laura and Peter’s multi-faceted story from all angles, exploring the complex dynamics of their marriage and raising thought-provoking questions about the justice system, diving into the complexities of proving guilt beyond reasonable doubt. Major twists in the case are revealed throughout the series, which may have viewers second-guessing what they thought they knew about the haunting real-life mystery.

Sky New Zealand Originals Head of Commissioning and series Executive Producer, Thomas Robins says, “In Cold Water: The Shelter Bay Mystery is a big one for Sky New Zealand Originals and we’re looking forward to sharing it with Aotearoa audiences. The series tells a complex story that blends human drama and legal intrigue, exploring Peter’s fierce legal battle and Laura’s family’s enduring suspicions around the case, and we think audiences will be just as intrigued by this compelling investigation as we have been.”

In Cold Water: The Shelter Bay Mystery airs on Sky’s free-to-air channel Sky Open across three consecutive nights, 18- 20 November at 8.30pm.
